Acupuncture for Treatment of Pain, for Weight Loss and to Stop Smoking
There is a misconception that there is pain associated with acupuncture.
If you have a skilled practitioner in this healing art, and it is an art, there should be zero to minimal pain. Acupuncture is one of the greatest de- stressors available. It is based on subtle changes in the central nervous system with progressive increases in the secretion of neuro-transmitters, such as serotonin and endorphins, in particular. With the release of these chemicals, there is stimulation to the adrenal glands that secrete cortisol, the bodies own stress-fighting, anti-inflammatory hormone. This hormone plays an important role in immune function, regulation of blood pressure and proper glucose metabolism, to name a few. With treatment, you may see improved energy and biochemical balance which promotes physical, mental and emotional well-being. With the release of these chemicals, it may explain why acupuncture treats pain. There have been many studies done on this subject. It is becoming more accepted and a scientifically validated treatment modality for pain relief in particular.

Electro-Acupuncture at Acupuncture Zen
Electroacupuncture, Acupuncture Florida
Electroacupuncture is an acupuncture technique that, comparatively speaking, has only recently come into use in the last 25 years. Electroacupuncture wasn’t really developed until 1958, when acupuncturists in China began experimenting with it as a form of pain relief. Electroacupuncture is an increasingly popular form of treatment, and is used by practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine for a wide array of conditions.
Examples for why it has recently become popular:
- It substitutes for prolonged hand maneuvering. This helps assure that the patient gets the amount of stimulation needed, because the practitioner may otherwise pause due to fatigue. Electro-acupuncture may also help reduce total treatment time by providing the continued stimulus. During electro-acupuncture, the practitioner can attend to other patients.
- It can produce a stronger stimulation, if desired, without causing tissue damage associated with twirling and lifting and thrusting the needle. Strong stimulation may be needed for difficult cases of neuralgia or paralysis.
- It is easier to control the frequency of the stimulus and the amount of stimulus than with hand manipulation of the needles.

What do the needles look like?
They are thin, flexible and made of surgical grade stainless steel.
They resemble a fine hair or thread. Your health and safety are of the utmost importance for us. The acupuncture needles we use come pre-sterilized and pre-packaged from the manufacturer. I use the highest quality needles available from Germany and Japan. These countries have the better machining techniques for painless acupuncture in my opinion. They are disposable and for single use only and in accordance with the FDA.
How many treatments do I need?
This all depends on how long you have had your condition.
You usually get benefit form one treatment, but the standard course is six-to-ten treatments. A maintenance course may then be prescribed. Remember, acupuncture is energetic reprogramming of the body and nervous system. It may take a series of treatments to get your body to the level you would like it.
Cupping Therapy with Acupuncture
Cupping therapy is the method of using glass or plastic cups to create localized pressure by a vacuum.
The Chinese have been doing this since ancient times by using heat inside glass or bamboo cups. Nowadays, cupping sets use suction to create the vacuum. The vacuum inside the cups causes the blood to form in the area and help the healing in that area. Ancient Chinese medicine have believed that the body contains “Meridians”. These meridians are pathways in the body which the energy of life called Qi (“chi”) flows through. It flows through every body part, tissue, and organ. Cupping therapy is mainly performed on one’s back because there are five meridians on your back. When these meridians are opened, the internal energy is able to flow through the whole body.
Traditionally, in ancient China, cupping therapy was a form of a healing therapy that consisted of placing glass, plastic or metal cups on the skin with vacuum suction. According to the principles of Chinese medicine, this therapy increases blood flow to the surface of the skin removing disease causing toxins. Apart from this, it helps in the curing of many conditions, such as the common cold, bronchitis and pneumonia. It is also beneficial for various pains, such as in the neck, shoulder and back. Acupuncture Zen in Delray Beach, utilizes these theories to improve our patients recovery and is usually mixed with traditional acupuncture needles around the target area.
Infertility Treatment at Acupuncture Zen
Painless Acupuncture at Acupuncture Zen has shown to be very effective in improving blood flow to the uterus and ovaries. This helps primarily with the implantation of embryos (which is especially important for women doing IVF). Acupuncture also promotes timely ovulation and an ideal luteal phase. It also raises levels of stress coping hormones (cortisol & prolactin) when it is applied before ovulation. By decreasing stress, the chances of fertilization and implantation increase.
