Acupuncture increases IVF success by 65%

Women undergoing IVF were 65 percent more likely to become pregnant when they combined the procedure with acupuncture, a recent study has shown.

The remarkable success rate occurred across seven acupuncture trials involving 1,366 women in a systematic review and meta-analysis published in a February 2008 issue of the British Medical Journal.

First, acupuncture boosts IVF success by aiding embryo attachment during transfer. Specifically, sessions occur before or after embryo transfer. Researchers from the University of Maryland and VU University Amsterdam conducted the study. Notably, acupuncture costs $75 per session, far less than IVF’s $6,000–$10,000 per cycle. Thus, it offers a cost-effective, safe way to enhance fertility outcomes. Moreover, acupuncture stimulates neurotransmitters, triggering gonadotrophin-releasing hormone production. This hormone regulates the menstrual cycle and ovulation. Additionally, acupuncture increases uterine blood flow and boosts endogenous opioids, promoting relaxation. For centuries, China has used acupuncture to regulate fertility. Furthermore, it effectively treats chronic pain and various disorders.
