900 E Atlantic Ave, Suite 11Dr. Tony Willcox is the only Acupuncture Doctor named on Newsmax Health’s Top 100 Physicians Who Embrace Integrative Medicine — featured alongside Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Andrew Weil, and other leading integrative medicine pioneers.
That recognition reflects a career built on genuine clinical depth. He served on the NHL Florida Panthers Medical Team for seven years and a UFC Fight Team for five years, and conducted pioneering clinical research on Acupuncture’s Effect on Mild Cognitive Impairment at Florida Atlantic University.
Holding a rare Double Doctorate — a D.A.O.M. from the U.S. and a PhD in Acupuncture from China — Dr. Tony ranks in the top half of 1% of acupuncture practitioners nationwide. This depth of training is reflected in every therapy at Acupuncture Zen, including: Acupuncture, Dry Needling, K-Laser Therapy, NovoTHOR® Red Light Therapy, Infrared Heat Lamp Therapy, Electro-Acupuncture & Microcurrent, Cupping Therapy, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Vitamin B12 Injections — a comprehensive suite of integrative therapies rarely found under one roof anywhere in South Florida.
Dr. Tony Willcox received the distinction of Summa Cum Laude for his studies in Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine from the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, in 2005.
In 2016, he earned a Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (D.A.O.M.), the highest doctoral degree in Acupuncture offered in the United States. He was also awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Chinese Government to pursue his Ph.D. in Acupuncture in China.
Professor Yang Jun, one of the most renowned acupuncture physicians in China, mentored Dr. Tony during his PhD studies at the Anhui University of Chinese Medicine in Hefei, China. In addition to his academic training, Dr. Tony gained extensive hands-on clinical experience by treating hundreds of patients in busy hospital settings across both major cities and rural areas in China. He managed a wide variety of conditions, with a particular focus on neurological disorders, which significantly strengthened his clinical skills and patient outcomes. Between 2016 and 2019, the rigorous work of completing a PhD in the birthplace of acupuncture proved well worth the effort.
PGA Tour champion and U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland visits his longtime acupuncturist, Dr. Tony Willcox, at Acupuncture Zen for expert sports acupuncture and recovery. In this photo, the golf star shares how acupuncture helps him heal from golf injuries, reduce pain, and enhance performance and overall well-being. “This is my place of ZEN,” says Woodland. “Acupuncture Zen is where I go to relax, letting the body recover through acupuncture.” Dr. Tony Willcox’s holistic acupuncture treatments continue to support top athletes like Gary Woodland with natural, effective recovery and performance care in South Florida.
The culmination of his doctoral research was a clinical study conducted at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, titled “The Effects of Acupuncture on Mild Cognitive Impairment.” This study, co-authored with world-renowned neurologist, researcher, and professor James E. Galvin, MD, MPH — a leading expert in Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body dementia (LBD), and cognitive aging — was published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinsonism in September 2019.
Dr. Willcox is the 1st Westerner to graduate with a PhD in Acupuncture from the Anhui University of Chinese Medicine in Hefei, China, in the university’s 60-year history.
