Every needle is brand new, sterile, and single-use
In the United States, the FDA regulates acupuncture needles as single-use medical devices. Every needle arrives individually wrapped in its own sealed, sterile package. The manufacturer sterilizes each one at the factory, long before it reaches our clinic. We open a fresh, sterile needle for you, and the moment we use it, it’s finished. We never clean a needle, never reuse it, and never share it between patients. So the needle that touches you has never touched anyone else — and never will again.
After your treatment: safe, regulated disposal
Once we use a needle, it goes straight into a puncture-proof biohazard “sharps” container. These are the red containers you see in the photo, designed so nothing can poke through. Used cotton and other soft contaminated materials go into a separate red biohazard bag.

When those containers and bags are full, we seal them. Then a licensed medical waste company collects them — we use Nationwide Medical Waste. This company specializes in transporting and treating this kind of waste under strict training and regulatory requirements. Afterward, they sterilize and destroy it under strict state and federal rules, so it never ends up in the regular trash.
Inspected and held to a strict standard
This process follows more than just our own internal standards. Federal and state regulations also cover how we handle, store, transport, and destroy medical sharps. To stay fully compliant, the local health department inspects our clinic once a year. During that visit, they review our biohazard collection certificates, confirm that we document and handle our medical waste properly, and verify that everything meets the required standards. In short, it’s an added layer of accountability that exists for one reason: your safety.
