Therapeutic touch and the healing power of hands have been recognised across every culture, every tradition, and every era of human history. From the ancient healing temples of Egypt and Greece to the sacred texts of the Bible, the Vedas, and the traditions of Chinese medicine, the laying on of hands as a channel for healing energy is one of humanity’s oldest and most universal truths.
At Acupuncture Zen, that tradition is alive and deeply present in every treatment Dr Tony Willcox provides.
Dr Tony’s relationship with the therapeutic touch began long before acupuncture. In his twenties and thirties in Australia, he began visiting healing churches and houses of worship — experiencing firsthand the profound effects of healing hands from gifted practitioners across various traditions. That early exposure ignited a deep curiosity and a lifelong commitment to understanding and developing the healing potential of touch.
Over the following decades Dr. Tony pursued this calling with the same discipline and dedication he brought to everything in his life — from his years as an elite infantry soldier to his doctoral studies in China. He trained with the Australian Spiritual Healers Association, studied Touch for Health, completed Kinesiology certification, and earned Reiki Level I, II, and Master certification — deepening his connection to the universal healing energy that flows through all living things.
In 2002, he completed all four levels plus Advanced certification in CranioSacral Therapy at the Upledger Institute — a modality that demands extraordinary sensitivity and refined palpation skills. Working with the subtle rhythms of the craniosacral system — the gentle pulse of cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord — refined Dr Tony’s sense of touch to a level that few practitioners ever develop. Every one of these experiences has contributed directly to his depth and precision as an acupuncture physician.
Dr Tony and his wife have travelled extensively to some of the world’s most sacred and spiritually significant sites — pilgrimages undertaken not as tourists but as sincere seekers, drawn by a deep and abiding desire to experience, absorb, and embody the profound healing energy that has accumulated in these places across centuries of prayer, devotion, and human longing for the divine.
These journeys have taken them across continents and across traditions — from ancient sacred sites and holy shrines to remote healing communities — each one deepening Dr Tony’s understanding that the greatest healers throughout history have always been those who devoted themselves not just to mastering technique, but to becoming a living vessel for the healing energy that moves through all things.
That energy is brought into every treatment room at Acupuncture Zen. Patients consistently sense something different here — a quality of presence, calm, and deep therapeutic intention that goes beyond technique alone.
Among the most profound and transformative chapters in Dr Tony’s healing journey was his travel to the Amazon jungle— venturing deep into the rainforests of Costa Rica and Colombia to sit at the feet of one of the most revered living masters of Amazonian healing tradition.
There, Dr Tony had the extraordinary privilege of receiving direct personal instruction from Taita Juanito — the legendary Amazonian Shaman featured in the acclaimed documentary The Medicine, which has brought global attention to the ancient healing wisdom of sacred plant medicine traditions from the heart of the Amazon. Dr Tony does not administer plant medicine in his practice — he travelled to learn, to receive, and to be transformed by direct transmission from a master whose lineage stretches back through generations of indigenous healing knowledge.
Through this direct personal transmission — the traditional method by which a master healer passes knowledge, song, and healing energy directly from their being into the being of the student — Dr Tony received instruction in icaros, the sacred healing songs of the Amazonian shamanic tradition. In indigenous Amazonian culture, icaros are not merely songs. They are living transmissions of healing intelligence — carried in sound, breath, and intention — used by master healers to call in healing energies, clear deep energetic blockages, elevate the vibrational field of the healing space, and guide patients toward wholeness at the deepest levels of their being.
To receive icaros directly from a master of Taita Juanito’s lineage and stature — in the sacred environment of the Amazon jungle itself — is an extraordinary privilege that Dr Tony carries with deep humility, reverence, and gratitude into every healing session he provides. These transmissions do not sit on a shelf as a credential. They live in Dr Tony’s hands, his breath, his presence, and his intention — woven invisibly but powerfully into the fabric of every treatment at Acupuncture Zen.
This dimension of Dr Tony’s training sits at the intersection of the ancient and the clinical — invisible to the untrained eye but profoundly felt by patients who are open to receiving healing at the deepest levels of their being.
One of the most distinctive aspects of Acupuncture Zen is Dr Tony’s genuine and wholehearted openness to the spiritual dimension of healing, for those patients who wish to explore it.
For patients who want to go deeper, Dr Tony welcomes the invitation to hold space for whatever healing tradition, faith, or spiritual connection is meaningful to them. The names are many — God, Jesus, Mother Mary, Yahweh, Hashem, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, The Holy Spirit, The Tao, Waheguru, Pachamama, Universal Consciousness, The Source, The Divine, Great Spirit, Angels, Spirit Guides, Ancestors, crossed-over loved ones, Love and Light, the healing power of Nature itself — and the thousand other names humanity has given to the one infinite love that moves through all things. And for some, there is only one name, and that name is everything. Whatever your path, whatever your prayer, and whoever you call upon — that conversation is welcome here, and it opens a deeper dimension of healing that pure technique alone cannot reach.
Dr Tony approaches this sacred dimension of his work with deep humility — not as the source of healing, but as a conduit for it. In his own words: “I am simply a humble servant of the healing that wants to come through. My role is to create the space, hold the intention, and get out of the way.” Whether that healing arrives through the precision of a needle, the warmth of a laser, the release of a cupping cup, or something altogether less visible and altogether more profound — it is welcome here. All of it. All of you.

And for patients who have no spiritual affiliation or simply prefer a straightforward clinical experience, that is equally welcome and equally respected. The acupuncture, the laser therapy, and the clinical expertise will do their work regardless. There is no pressure and no prescription — only the freedom to receive healing in whatever way resonates most deeply with you.
As Dr Tony often says, the healing is already within you. His role as a physician, a healer, and a student of the world’s greatest healing traditions is simply to help you access it.
After more than 20 years of clinical practice, 12 years as a massage therapist, and decades of developing the sensitivity of touch through every modality and tradition described above, Dr Tony has arrived at a place where the acupuncture needle is no longer a separate instrument. It has become an extension of his hands, his fingers, and his healing intention.
The knowledge of where to place the needles, how deep, at what angle, and with what quality of touch has become second nature — refined through thousands of clinical hours in Australian clinics, Chinese hospitals, the sacred sites of the world, and the treatment rooms of Acupuncture Zen. Patients often comment that they can feel something in Dr Tony’s needle technique that they have not experienced with other practitioners — a quality of presence, precision, and deep therapeutic intention that goes beyond the mechanical.
That is the fruit of a lifetime devoted entirely to the art, the science, and the spirit of healing.
Every patient who walks through the doors of Acupuncture Zen receives the full benefit of this extraordinary journey — from the battlefields of the Australian Army to the hospitals of Shanghai, from the sacred sites of the world to the depths of the Amazon jungle, and ultimately to a treatment room on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach where all of that knowledge, experience, and healing transmission converges in service of one purpose — your healing.
