Shoulder Pain
One high –quality study showed that acupuncture is an effective treatment for soft tissue lesions of the shoulder, including rotator cuff tendinitis, capsulitis, bicipital tendinitis, and/or bursitis. This RCT included 130 patients divided into an acupuncture group and a placebo acupuncture group. Both groups were assessed before, during, and after the procedure at 3 months and 6 months. After 6 months, the true acupuncture group demonstrated statistically significant improvement over the placebo acupuncture group in the pain intensity score as well as the range of motion, functionality, quality of life, and use of anti-inflammatory medication.
