Chronic Fatigue

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Are you uncontrollably tired on a consistent basis? You may be living with a condition known as chronic fatigue syndrome. Acupuncture therapy is a tool that has been used for centuries to treat many conditions, including chronic fatigue. It’s a great assistive tool in helping people combat the life-altering and debilitating symptoms of chronic fatigue. So, if you’re living with this condition, acupuncture may be something worth considering for symptom management.

What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)?

The causes of CFS is unknown, but virus and or immune system reaction may be responsible. Since there is not a lot known about why people experience chronic fatigue, finding treatment for this condition can be challenging. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is characterized by feelings of exhaustion and low energy levels that don’t let up even after sleep and relaxation. People living with chronic fatigue may have difficulty with tasks like:

  • maintaining high levels of productivity in the workplace
  • taking care of family members (children, elderly parents, etc.)
  • doing daily personal maintenance
  • cleaning and maintaining a household
  • socializing with loved ones
  • participating in physical activities and hobbies
  • making meals/grocery shopping

People with CFS often feel so tired they can’t do their normal daily activities even after rest. Twice as many women as men are diagnosed with CFS. It can last for days, weeks, or even years with symptoms coming and going. Although researchers are not positive about what causes CFS, there are proven methods of managing the symptoms with chronic fatigue syndrome treatments.

Acupuncture for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Many people who are living with CFS may not find the symptom relief to live lives of wellbeing even after utilizing traditional therapies and treatments. So, many may turn to acupuncture as a complementary tool to use alongside their other used treatment approaches prescribed by their healthcare physician. Acupuncture has been used for over a thousand years to address a number of physical and mental health ailments, including symptoms of chronic fatigue. While more research is necessary to pinpoint exactly how acupuncture works for people living with CFS, it is believed that acupuncture helps to stimulate the body to release a specific chemical – carnitine. This chemical is known to improve an individual’s energy and help to keep people from feeling as drowsy.

Furthermore, as many people living with CFS experience muscle pains and weakness, acupuncture can also help to reduce this discomfort. Acupuncture is believed to stimulate the central nervous system and, in return, reduce inflammation in the body, which is the main cause of pain. So, people living with CFS can utilize acupuncture therapy to address a number of issues that are developed as a result of living with CFC, which makes it a prominent and efficient tool to utilize for these individuals.
