Miscarriages

Overview of Miscarriages

A miscarriage is a natural occurrence defined as the sudden loss of a fetus before the 20th week of pregnancy. However, it more commonly occurs within the first seven weeks. Miscarriages affect approximately 3% of pregnancies, and females are at an increased risk as they age. Some research shows that even the age of the male partners can influence the possibility of a miscarriage.

Miscarriages can derive from the baby’s inability to develop due to chromosome issues. Other causes include substance abuse, hormone imbalance, smoking, immune response, and being overweight.

Miscarriages can affect you physically and emotionally. They can bring about an array of emotions. Women tend to feel depressed, disbelief, anger, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, brain fog, appetite changes, crying episodes, and self-harm.

Acupuncture for Miscarriages

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) focuses on Kidney Essence, Yin, Yang, and Qi when treating the reproductive system. These four energies provide direction and substance to the egg and the sperm. When there is an imbalance in the energies, they can lead to miscarriages.

Kidney Essence, Yin, Yang, and Qi all decline as we age. However, inadequate self-care, poor diet, stress, substance abuse, and unsettled emotions can further reduce them.

Acupuncture helps balance the organ systems and treats miscarriages by regulating hormonal imbalances and improving the quality of the egg or sperm. As mentioned, miscarriages also affect you emotionally. Acupuncture does not separate the body, mind, and spirit and can help treat trauma and sadness holistically.

What to Expect?

At Acupuncture Zen, miscarriage prevention is treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine. Acupuncture needles are inserted into the skin at the umbilical region using electrostimulation which increases microcirculation in the uterus and supports homeostasis within the body. It also creates an excellent environment to nourish the uterus and prepare it for a fetus. Various acupuncture points are also used to tonify the Qi, making the energy stronger and more resilient. Harmonizing or calming the Shen, this approach of acupuncture calms the nervous system to restore health and wellness. There are also other treatment options using traditional Chinese medicine theory. This standard of practice involves checking the patient’s tongue, the representation of the vital organs to see which energy needs balancing, and the condition of the qi and blood. Also checking the radial pulse on the wrist gives the practitioner valuable information as to how to improve the body’s energy and improve chances of conception and retaining the fetus.

In conjunction with acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine can help stabilize the kidney and tonify yin, yang, and blood to prevent miscarriages. Acupuncture is a valuable tool that can be used for many conditions and to improve health.
