Golfers elbow or medial epicondylitis is a condition that causes pain or discomfort on the medial or inner side of the elbow. Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis is the opposite. Which can cause pain and discomfort on the lateral or outside of the elbow. However, both can be obverse. Whereas, the typical symptoms may be on the opposite side, as per the standard definition of the typical condition. ie. Tennis players may have golfers elbow and golfers may have tennis elbow. These dualities of Yin and Yang in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Theories are commonplace to the Acupuncture Physician and Acupuncture supports outstanding treatment conditions for golf or tennis elbow.
Often, causes may be from repetitive use, injury, overexertion, strain, jarring from impact with either the tennis racquet or golf club whether on impact with either the ball or the ground. This injury may also be affected by posture and computer work like using a mouse or trackpad in a repetitive fashion.
Symptoms common with this condition one may experience are elbow and wrist stiffness, tenderness on the olecranon, the bony prominence on the upper end of the ulna, one of the two bones that give structural integrity to the forearm. There may be pins – and – needles sensations down the forearm. There is usually tenderness in some of the trigger points in the inside or outside forearm with also tingling to the fingers if more severe and chronic cases.
While many people resort to the standard western medicine protocols of pain relievers, rest, ice, and physical therapy many overlook the importance of Acupuncture in its role in these conditions. Acupuncture can be an effective treatment not only for golfer’s elbow but many conditions golf enthusiasts complain about as in back, neck, shoulder, and knee pain.
