Trigeminal Neuralgia Relief in Delray Beach

OBJECTIVE:
To observe the clinical efficacy of primary trigeminal neuralgia treated with the joint needling method at the trigger point.

Jaw Pain

A patient receiving acupuncture for Trigeminal Neuralgia

METHODS:

Researchers divided 103 primary trigeminal neuralgia cases into joint needling (53 cases) and conventional needling (50 cases) groups by visit sequence. Joint needling group received treatment at mandibular joint trigger point near Xiaguan (ST 7); conventional needling targeted Hegu (LI 4), Waiguan (TE 5), Taichong (LR 3), Neiting (ST 44). The conventional needling group used Xiaguan (ST 7), Fengchi (GB 20), with supplementary acupoints based on trigeminal nerve branches involved. Before, after the 1st and 2nd sessions, VAS and trigeminal neuralgia scores effectively evaluated pain severity and comprehensive symptoms.
Efficacy was evaluated post-treatment.

RESULTS:

Following the 1st and 2nd sessions, therefore, both groups consistently showed markedly lower VAS and comprehensive symptom scores than before treatment.

CONCLUSION:
The joint needling method at the trigger point achieves the significant efficacy of primary trigeminal neuralgia, which is superior to that with the conventional needling method.
